Ever since the founding of the Chicago Interfaith Family School in 1993, |
Fr. Tom Hurley welcomes us not only the Pastor of Old St. Patrick’s Church, but also as a gracious and enthusiastic supporter of the Family School, continuously offering his wisdom and friendship. He not only ensures that the Family School is hosted by St. Patrick’s Church, but is also an integral part of its faith community. Fr. Tom’s deep commitment to ecumenism continues to make St. Pat’s known throughout Chicago and the world for its hospitality and welcoming spirit to people of all faiths.
Fr. John Cusick a leader in Jewish-Catholic dialogue for many years, has inspired us at memorable events with his insights and deep understanding of the connections between Judaism and Christianity. He initially encouraged the efforts of the founding members of the Family School and has participated in the school’s activities ever since. Fr. John is in residence at Old St. Patrick’s Church and heads the Chicago Archdiocesan Office of Young Adult Ministry.
Our clergy are full participants in the Family School, celebrating with our community at religious services and special events, and regularly sharing their thoughts and perspectives with parents and students. Together, they meet with adults and students, lead services, teach classes, and celebrate sacraments and rites of passage that include Baptism/Namings, First Holy Communions, and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. We are also extremely grateful to our gracious and generous hosts: | |

Rabbi Chava Bahle serves as the Rabbi of the Family School and is also the Rabbi of Chicago’s Congregation Makom Shalom. Rabbi Chava has one of the world’s longest commutes -- traveling to Chicago on a monthly basis from her home in Sutton’s Bay, Michigan. She is a treasured friend and spiritual advisor to our families year-round, and is actively involved with the school in a number of ways. More information about Rabbi Chava is at Rabbi Chava Bahle’s website.
Rabbi Allen Secheris our beloved Rabbi Emeritus. Rabbi Allen has provided strong support to the Family School dating back to its founding in 1993. Although he now lives in Whitefish, Montana, we welcome Rabbi Allen to Family School whenever his travels bring him back to Chicago.
